Sierra Leone wins London film awards

Chief Executive Officer of the local film producer The Ushers has said that Sierra Leone has won the United Kingdom’s Black Entertainment Film, BEFFTA, award for 2014.

Pastor Aiah Momoh told journalists at their Railway Line office in Freetown that the movie ‘The Devil in Sierra Leone’ won best movie for 2014 at the England based award group.

Staff at Sierra Leone state broadcaster want boss gone and probed

Staff of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation have urged the country’s anti-corruption commission to investigate their Director General, Gbanabone Hallowel, whose four-year mandate ended in September.

The aggrieved employees laid down their tools and blamed their boss for “mismanagement and one who has carried out other dubious activities all through his four years in office.”

Inflation rate soars in Sierra Leone

Principal statistician at Statistics Sierra Leone has disclosed that the inflationary trend in the country “has risen and will continue to rise due to restricted movements in farming communities and the depreciation of the country’s currency.”

Kailahun fears Ebola reemergence

An opposition parliamentarian has expressed fear that more people in Kailahun are likely to contract Ebola after a dramatic drop in infection rate in the former epicenter.

Mustapha Brima said this was due to “careless disposal methods employed by members of the National Ebola Response Center (NERC)”.

Argus approaching Freetown port

The British support ship, Argus, is along the coast of Sierra Leone and docks this morning at the Queen Elizabeth Quay in Freetown.

According to a UK Defence ministry source, she is here "to help defeat Ebola in he shortest possible time and will be around for months".

Strike looms at Lungi Airport

Workers at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi have planned to challenge some administrative decisions and protest the possible re-employment of thegeneral manager who was retired on 13 October this year.

John Sesay told Politico that he was actually retired but had been “reinstated by my employers on contract basis,” adding that his retirement was not an issue because police in the northwest division had settled the matter by replying to the grieving workers.
