Strategic planning for CSO activities

Abu Brima made the statement at the opening of a five-day strategic development meeting for civil society coalitions, funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), at Santano House in Freetown.

Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, the late former president

President Ernest Bai Koroma on Sunday paid a condolence visit to the home of his predecessor and Sierra Leone's war time leader, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah who died on Thursday 13 March 2014 after a long illness. He was aged 82.

Crisis at SLFA

Lawyers acting on behalf of former Leone Stars’ skipper, Mohamed Kallon, have written a letter to the Sierra Leone Football Association, SLFA, secretariat registering their opposition to the constitution of the committee investigating the case involving their client.

The committee was to look into last week’s case of assault involving Kallon, who alleged that he was assaulted by FA president, Isha Johansen, who also claimed that she too was assaulted following an FA cup match at the football academy in Freetown. Both sides had filed complaints with the police.

GUMA to end water shortage

Committee on water resources in parliament has summoned the minister of water resources, Momodu Maligie,to give reasons “for the acute water shortage despite the work of Guma Valley Water Company in Freetown”.

The MPs also warned all ministries, departments and agencieslike the fire force, ministry of defence and the police against “misusing water hydrants and related resources” and challenged them to pay up all debts owed to the water supply company.

UNDP sees unique prospect in Const. Review

Acting United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, country director, Dr. Mohamed Abchir, has described the constitutional review process as “a unique opportunity for voices to be heard”.

He told a one-day workshop organized by the Constitutional Review Committee in collaboration with the UNDP, at Miatta Conference Centre in Freetown that because the media had played important role during past challenges in Sierra Leone, its role was also still very vital.

Principals unhappy with NPSE results

Chairman conference of principals in Pujehun district has expressed dissatisfaction over the low passes for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in the last three years.

Emmanuel Gbonda, who is also the principal of Saint Stevens Technical Vocational Secondary School (SSTVSS) at Gobaru, made this disclosure on the celebration of the fourth annual speech day and prize giving ceremony of his school.
