More evidence is expected in court today in the matter involving staff of the National Revenue Authority, Ecobank and Sierra Leone National Shipping Company who appeared in court again yesterday.

The 17 accused persons have been consistently denied bail since their trial started in June.

Yesterday three witnesses from various institutions testified against the 10th accused, Abdul Mutalib Kamara before Justice M.A Paul. He is one of a batch of ten standing trial this week.

Police at Ross Road Division have arrested 18 people in connection with the deaths on Saturday of two football fans. Crime Officer, Ade Caulker told Politico that the suspects had been charged to court for “malicious conducts”.

Following an investigative report by Politico in July this year, on the existence of ghost schools in Kenema district, authorities have mounted their own investigations into the issue and discovered that the number is much higher.

The district council says that support for 77 schools said to be nonexistent has been withheld and their names struck off the list of schools that receive government school fee subsidies meant for the region.

Director of public education and outreach at the Anti-Corruption Commission has told Politico that they are organising a symposium to gauge public perceptions from various quarters on different aspects of bribery in Sierra Leone.

Shollay Davies said the symposium and panel discussions, slated for today September 12 at the Miata Conference Centre in Freetown, was in line with the global corruption barometer report, which he said was “really teasing” for the country.
