In fulfillment of the Local Council Act of 2024, the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has officially inaugurated the newly elected Mayors, Chairpersons, and Councilors of Kono, Kailahun, and Kenema districts in the East of the country.

The inauguration was held at the Kenema City Hall, on the 11^th of August 2023.

 Paramount Chief Sidique Kapuwa on behalf of the traditional authorities in the Eastern Region congratulated the new council officials and assured them of their support.

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has asked that citizens help provide information leading to the apprehension of drug dealers in the country by calling the toll-free lines 119 and 900.

The Director of Crime Services of SLP, Assistant Inspector General of Police Brimah Jah made this call at the weekly Police briefing at the Police Headquarters in Freetown on Thursday.

A prosecution witness has testified at the Ross Road Magistrate’s court that one of the accused persons in an on-going robbery with aggravation and arson case that the third accused, Alpha Sesay, ordered his colleagues to stab and kill him.

 Santigie Bangura, a caretaker at the property in question said on the 26^th of January this year at about 1 p.m., he was sleeping in one of the six apartments of a farm in Kerry town when the five accused persons together with others unknown to him hit the door.

A 58-year-old man accused of killing his sister appeared at the Ross Road, Freetown Magistrate Court on Tuesday 15^th August on a count of Murder Charge.

Sulaiman Conteh is accused of killing Prison Officer Isha Saidu Hughes of 6A Savage Street in Freetown on Friday 14^th July 2023.

Standing by the door of the partially dark courtroom, the Court Registrar wept as he attempted to read the charge sheet.

In order to boost the health sector in the two regions, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning have demanded 500 acres of land from stakeholders in the South and Eastern Regions for the construction of State of Art Hospital along the Bo-Kenema Highway.

Officials from the two ministries held a meeting with the people of Jembeh town Baoma Chiefdom in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone about the hospital’s construction on the 10th August 2023.

The Mayor of Kenema Municipality, Thomas Karim Baio has briefed Journalists and Local Authorities on his new development Plans for the people of Kenema City in his second tenure of office.

The briefing was held at his residence in Kenema on the 14^th of August 2023.

He said his engagement was to discuss issues of importance to the development of Kenema and acknowledge the media’s role in making it a success.

A Defence Lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, has told a Magistrate Court in Freetown that a Police statement tendered in court was not the one made by his client.

Kamara said this at the Pademba Road Magistrate court in Freetown on Monday 14^th August 2023 whilst representing Alpha Sheriff and eight others in connection to illegal possession of small arms and operating an illegal private security service.
