PPRC, Peace Commission concerned over parties’ conduct

With less than two weeks to Sierra Leone’s General Elections, the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) and the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) have in a Joint Statement, criticised the conduct of some political parties, after the two institutions’ monitoring of campaigns for a three- week period.

APC decries judiciary

The opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party has accused the Judiciary of Sierra Leone of unfair treatment, noting its failure to serve justice to its members who have fallen victim to Political intimidations and attacks across the country.

In an interview with Politico, the APC Publicity Secretary Sidi Yaya Tunis noted that twelve of their supporters were arrested in Foindu in Pujehun district southern Sierra Leone, and were transferred to Bo where they were charged with various public order offenses.

2023 Manifesto: APC promises inclusive gov’t

In their ‘One Nation Manifesto’, the All People’s Congress (APC) party has pledged to ensure that every region and district is represented in their administration if elected on June 24th this year in the country’s General Elections.

The Manifesto which was launched on the 29th May 2023 stated that “The APC shall appoint a Government that will reflect the demographic diversity of the country, ensuring the representation of every region and district in the country”.

CSO calls for peaceful elections

Native Consortium and Research Center, a Civil Society Organization (CSO), has appealed to all Citizens to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the June 24 multi-tier elections in the country.

The CSO in a press statement dated 12th June this year urged Sierra Leoneans to maintain the peace of the nation, saying that peace is supreme and that everyone should do everything to prevent any form of violence that will lead to the loss of lives or destruction of properties.

Over 100 peace mediators trained nationwide

120 people from across Sierra Leone have completed training on Peace Mediation that was organized by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) in partnership with Ghana based Women, Peace and Security Institute (WPSI) of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).

The peace mediators- 64 men and 56 women were taught mediation and reconciliation skills.
