Sierra Leone politicians sign against vulgarity, hate speech

Representatives from four political parties, the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, Coalition for Change (C4C), National Grand Coalition (NGC), and the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have signed a communiqué against the use of obscenities, vulgarities and hate speech whilst carrying their activities.

The communiqué was signed at a dialogue lunch convened by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) on the 6th March 2023 at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown

Sierra Leone president urges support for poorer nations

President Julius Maada Bio has called on partners from the Global North and South to support the Least Developed Countries' (LDCs) quest for structural transformation by promoting Infrastructure development, technology transfer, and foreign investment.

He made the call at the high-level thematic Round Table 3 on structural transformation in LDCs in Doha, Qatar on the 6th March, 2023.

Samura Kamara trial postponed

The trial of Dr. Samura Kamara, presidential candidate of the opposition APC has been postponed to the 27th of March 2023. The trial was due to resume on the 17th but judicial sources told Politico that the postponement has been caused by the fact that the US embassy needs time to process visas for lawyers on both sides and court officials to visit the Sierra Leone Chancery Building site in New York which is at the center of the case.

NASSIT forgery suspect remanded

A 46 year- old man Aloysius Borbor Barbar of Upper Allentown has been remanded at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre for allegedly forging a marriage certificate so he could become a beneficiary of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) scheme.

Barbar appeared before presiding magistrate Mark Ngegba on Monday 6th March 2023 charged with 84 counts ranging from conspiracy to defraud, forgery, altering a document, making a false statement, furnishing a false statement, and causing money to be paid to him by false pretences.

“They tied me up and cut my body” – Witness tells court

A prosecution witness in the ongoing kidnapping case before Principal magistrate, Mark Ngegba of Pademba court No.1 has testified that the first and second accused, Prince Oscar and Emeka Ouigbo tied him up and that the first accused person started cutting his body with a knife. 

As new Sierra Leone airport opens to the skies, Bio assures of positive development

President Julius Maada Bio says the operations of the new Freetown International Airport will generate economic growth and sustainable development.

He told thousands of people who attended the formal opening of the complex in Lungi last Friday that he would now like to see more carriers take advantage of Sierra Leone’s strategic location to make it a traffic hub in the sub-region especially for South America and Europe bound passengers.
