Man remanded for visa fraud

Principal Magistrate Mark Ngegba has remanded 47 years old Mohamed Sal in custody until the 25th of February. The accused is facing a 9 count charge ranging from conspiracy to obtaining money by false pretenses. The details are that Sal, who resides at 66 Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen, obtained money from different people on the promise that he would facilitate their travel overseas.

He appeared in court on Wednesday 15th February, 2023 to answer to the charges contained in 5 separate files.

SLCB to begin e-banking

The Managing Director of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) Yusifu Sillah  has acknowledged  the importance of the electronic banking system, saying that  the bank’s  key objective now is to move into cashless payment systems or artificial intelligence banking for their customers.

IPAM-USL, parliament in partnership

The Institute of Public Administration and Management, University of Sierra Leone (IPAM, USL), on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the professional development of the students through on –the- job work experience before they graduate.

Among other things, the Understanding is for the purpose of sending students to the House of Parliament “to work as interns which will help them build their capacities and learn firsthand how to translate theories they have learnt into practice”.

Sierra Leone jails four over Kush drug

Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba has sentenced 23 year old Alimamy Sesay of 13 B Kissy Brook PWD and 24 year old Kadiatu Kamara of No.8 Kissy Brook to 12 and 8 months in jail respectively for the possession of illegal drugs.

The accused persons, who earlier on Monday 13th February pleaded not guilty before the presiding magistrate after their offences had been read out to them, later changed their plea to guilty following discussions with their lawyer, Kemeh Kamara.

Sierra Leone parliament concerned over passport price

Following concerns raised by the Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament over the hike in passport price, the Speaker of Parliament Chernor Abass Bundu has instructed that the Minister of Internal Affairs David Panda-Noah appear before the house to explain why the high cost and the delay to transition from machine readable to E-Passport.
