APPA meets tripartite committee

Smaller parties have called for a review of the Proportional Representation System of voting especially the percentage ceiling that would allow them to have seats in Parliament, and not just the two main parties.

This was among recommendations presented by the All Political Parties Association (APPA) to the tripartite committee at their Brookfields hotel Secretariat in Freetown, Monday 10th June.

The tripartite committee is reviewing and providing answers to electoral irregularities over the years.

DFIs to support private investment in Sierra Leone

With support from Africa Resilience Investment Accelerator (ARIA) and Invest Salone, Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) have pledged to support private investment in Sierra Leone with increased and more flexible financial lending to grow their businesses.

 The support will happen by investing in the local financial institutions, which will in turn channel more loan opportunities to businesses in the country.

PRA, World Bank, OMCs discuss Sierra Leone draft fuel price formula

The Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), World Bank Representatives, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), in collaboration with the ministries of finance, trade and industry, have discussed Sierra Leone’s fuel price formula review draft which has never been examined for decades, according to officials.

This initiative, while significant on its own, forms part of the government’s effort to accelerate open, fair and accountable review that seeks sustainable fuel price formula, as discussed at a stakeholders workshop on June 6, 2024.

MPs bemoan water situation in Sierra Leone

Members of Parliament have expressed frustration over the severity of the situation in accessing to clean and safe drinking water in the country and called for an increase in budget for the sector, in a bid to remedy the situation.

A situation that the MPs described as "a perennial problem" in the country whilst debating the approval of presidential nominees including Ing. David K. Fonnie who is appointed as Chairman for the Board of Directors at Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC).
