27 soldiers appear before a court-martial in Sierra Leone

Twenty-seven members of Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have appeared before a Court Martial in Freetown on eighty-eight counts related to security breaches.

The charges include, mutiny to overthrow the government, failure to suppress mutiny, aiding the enemy, communicating with the enemy, committing civil offence, and  stealing of public or service property, fraudulent misapplication of public or service property.

All the accused persons were other ranks in the RSLAF, with the exception of a Lieutenant- Colonel.

Sierra Leonean mother of quadruplets needs medical attention

 Fatmata Sesay who recently gave birth to quadruplets needs medical attention, according to her husband Mohamed S. Kanu.

Speaking in an interview with Politico on the 5th January 2024, the drowsy father who had just woken up after a sleepless night helping his wife attend to their four babies explained that his wife has been complaining and experiencing severe stomach pains, but stated that they could not afford to go to the hospital, and therefore called on the public to help them.

KONSU president commits to women’s empowerment

President of Kono Students Union (KONSU) Kenziah Fears has expressed her commitment to ensuring that female students of the district are empowered not only through formal education but skills that could make them market-ready.

Fears in an interview with Politico said she intends to include skills training symposia in their summer school programme curriculum in a bid to empower more women.

New Stroke Care Unit for Kenema Hospital

As a result of a rise in the number of stroke patients in the district, the management of Kenema Government Hospital with support from Kings Global Partnership has opened a modern stroke unit at the Kenema Government Hospital, east of Sierra Leone.

The stroke unit was officially opened to the public on the 23rd December 2023.

Sierra Leone Financial Intelligence Unit probes Super Advertis

 The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in collaboration with pertinent stakeholders is investigating an online money-making platform named Super Advertis suspected of unlawful activities, an entity using various mobile money platforms in Sierra Leone to solicit deposits from the public under the guise of investments. 

The platform is said to have defrauded Sierra Leoneans of over OLe 9000,000,000 (nine billion Old Leones).

PPRC updates Stakeholders on November 26 investigations

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in collaboration with the leadership of the Security Sector summoned a stakeholders meeting with all registered political parties and updated them on the progress of the November 26th failed coup investigations.

The meeting was held at the Conference Room of the Office of National Security (ONS), Tower Hill in Freetown on the 8th of January 2024.
