WIMSAL election overturned

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Electoral Commission (SLAJEC) has overturned the result of the leadership election for the Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL).

The election which was conducted on November 30th 2019, ended up in a dispute, with the losing candidate for the presidency complaining irregularities.

The election was held in Kenema, as part of the organization’s annual general meeting.

IT officer indicted for alleged corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has indicted Abdul Razak Kabba, a Senior Information Technology officer at the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, for corruption offenses related to procurement.

The indictment was announced by the commission on Wednesday in a press statement which indicates that the accused faces 16 counts charges, including conflict of interest and abuse of office.

IMF announces debt relief for Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is among 25 countries to benefit from a much deeneded debt relief announced by the International Monetary Fund this week.

The move is part of the Fund’s ‘‘revamped Catastrophe Containment’’ measures to cushion the economic impact of the global COVID 19 pandemic.

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the lender, made the announcement in a statement.

Local Council ministry harmonizes bye laws for COVID-19

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, with support from the United Nations Development Fund, has concluded a two-day training for local authorities on the harmonization of local bye laws to match with the COVID-19 bye laws.

The training which was held in Kenema District ended on Wednesday.

Police arrest eight Clique Boys over fatal revenge attack

Police in Bo have arrested eight people who are known to be members of a clique. All eight are accused of unleashing terror on the people of Batiyama Village in revenge for the death of one of their members, Junior Sannoh.

The Southern region Police spokesman, Mohamed Bobson Senu, explained to Politico that on the 9th of April, at 10pm, they received a call from Batiyama village from a concerned resident.

Sierra Leone House Majority Leader ready to quit

The Leader of Government Business in Parliament for the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Sidi Tunis, has said he is ready to quit his position since the party has decided to replace him.

Tunis told Politico on Tuesday that he would do whatever the party said.

Last week, Chairman of the SLPP, Dr Prince Harding, announced Martin Nyuma as the new leader of the party in parliament. Nyuma has been Tunis’ Deputy since he took over the position in 2018.

FCC, Gento Group clash over King Jimmy Bridge

The Freetown City Council (FCC) and the construction firm Beton Villa, better known as Gento Group, have accused each other of responsibility for the persistent overflowing of sewage on the King Jimmy Bridge along Lightfoot Boston Street.

The wastewater has been oozing out from a point in the middle of the bridge for a long time, rendering the area smelly and uncomfortable for those who do business there. The unsightly scene is made worse by moving vehicles which splash the liquid all over the vicinity.
