Sierra Leone compensates female journalists assaulted by presidential guards

Two female journalists assaulted by members of the presidential guard have received compensation from the government of Sierra Leone to cover their medical bill and lost items.

Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, said during the handing over ceremony of the cheques to the women that the compensation was part of the recommendations of the committee that was set up to investigate the incident.

CGG urges Sierra Leone Government to clamp down on political violence

The civil society group, Campaign for Good Governance (CGG), has called on the government of Sierra Leone and law enforcement agencies to take urgent steps to curb the rising level of political violence across the country.

CGG’s call comes amidst fears that the recent spate of violence between supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) had sent a signal of instability and insecurity for most citizens.

Pujehun chiefs prevent donors from monitoring projects

The environmental campaign group, Green Scenery, has expressed dissatisfaction over the attitude of the District Officer (DO) of Pujehun, who they said “illegally” prevented their donor partners from monitoring sponsored projects in the district.

Hospital staff testify against medical superintendent accused of theft

Prosecutors for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have presented one of the hospital staff on Wednesday as a witness against Dr Peter Belmoh Samai.

Edmund Yarjah is a technician at the hospital, and he installed the generators.

Dr Samai, who is the medical superintendent at the Bo Government Hospital, stands accused of taking one of the three generators donated to the hospital by foreign donors to his house.

Samai made his third appearance in front of Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda last week.

NACCED holds message development seminar

The development is a culmination of a year-long activities that led to the development of a strategic plan which spells out how the Council would carry out its functions.

South African investors to explore opportunities in Sierra Leone

The Sierra Leone government has announced that up to 30 South African investors have announced plans to explore opportunities in mining and electricity in the country.

The announcement comes following President Julius Maada Bio’s engagement on the sidelines of the Africa Mining Indaba.

Mining Indaba is Africa’s leading mining investment forum and it is taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
