Save the Children celebrates centenary

The international child rights group, Save the Children, has celebrated its 100 year anniversary by showcasing its achievements in Sierra Leone and the region. The celebration was held at the Radisson Blu Mamy Yoko Hotel on Thursday.

The state of sanitation in Freetown has raised concern among a section of the capital city’s population, amidst dysfunctional sewerage systems that have led to faeces flowing in the streets.  

Affected residents have been expressing dissatisfaction over the worsening state of affairs in the last few weeks, with some questioning the commitment and competence of the City Council to tackle the situation.

OSIWA launches picture books for pupils in Sierra Leone

The Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) has launched the first set of picture books for Early Childhood Development. The books which were locally produced are geared towards fostering development among pupils in pre-schools, by enhancing their social emotional skills.

The project was designed by UNICEF, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and funded by OSIWA.

IAMTEC gets new president

The students’ union of the Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTEC) has got a new president.

Final year business administration student, Emmanuel Kanu was sworn in yesterday by his Attorney General and Minister of Justice at a well-attended function at the college campus in the east of Freetown. It followed his election on the 31 August.
