Former Gov't Minister in US$ 2 million house controversy

A house worth US$2million is at the center of a controversy at the ongoing Commissions of Inquiry.

On Wednesday, a government property valuator, Olu Campbell, told Justice Biobele Goergewill that they had a strong suspicion that the house was bought by former government minister, Minkailu Mansaray under the name of his daughter, Umu Hawa Mansaray.

Socfin vs Green Scenery contempt case adjourned again

The High Court of Sierra Leone on Tuesday adjourned the contempt of court hearing against the rights campaigner group, Green Scenery for the second time, after a heated debate between the rival counsels.

Green Scenery, through its Executive Director Joseph Rahal, is accused of violating a court ruling on a defamation case brought against it by the agribusiness firm SOCFIN.

It was the second time the contempt case been presided over by Justice Komba Kamanda has been adjourned.

Sierra Leone ex-Sports Minister linked to $ 2 million house, multiple bank accounts

Testimonies at the Commissions of Inquiry on Wednesday has shown that former Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou owns a house in Gloucester with estimated value of just over US $2million.

Khanou and nine others who served as ministers in the Ernest Bai Koroma administration are being investigated by the Justice Biobele Georgewill Commission of Inquiry for the assets they acquired during their time in office.

Khanou served as the Minister of Sports before he was later appointed as the Deputy Minister of Lands.

Local Gov’t minister calls for support from Sierra Leone Chiefs

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Tamba Lamina has called on chiefs across the country to support the work of the ministry to bring development to rural people.

Lamina made the statement at the beginning of a regional tour to paramount chiefs in the Eastern region on Wednesday. 

Fuel shortage hits Sierra Leone, again

Sierra Leone has been gripped by another fuel shortage, less than two weeks to the festive season.

Fuel stations across the country started turning back vehicles from last weekend, citing shortage of petrol, the most common fuel consumed in the country. The situation has led to long queues of vehicles in the capital Freetown, Bo in the south and Kenema in the east.

Standards Bureau workers strike in Sierra Leone

Staff at the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB) went on strike on Tuesday, demanding an improvement in their conditions of service.

The angry staff locked out the senior management team of the Bureau, including its Executive Director, whiles displaying placards in front of the gate with inscriptions like “Improve our condition of service” and “Risk Hazards for staff”.

TransAir commences flight to Sierra Leone

The Senegalese based airline, TransAir, has commenced operations in Sierra Leone. The first flight of the airline landed at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi on Monday, November 18.

The 50-sitter airline will fly to the country twice a week - Mondays and Fridays - via The Gambian capital, Banjul.
