Sierra Leone hosts international energy conference

A two-day international conference on renewable energy has ended in Freetown with calls for investment in the sector.

The Mano River Union Renewable Energy and Clean Cooking Summit, which took place at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel, was designed to share ideas and rally investments into the sector.

Sierra Leone Housing Corporation unveils Le 65 billion new housing project

The Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC) has announced plans to invest Le65billion in a new housing project.

SALHOC, which didn’t specify the category of people the scheme will target, said it intends to raise the money from the sale of its 7th Battalion estate at Goderich. He said the Ministry of Finance had consented to buying the property.

Ing. Charles Musa, Managing Director of SALHOC, made these disclosures on Tuesday at a press conference marking his one-year anniversary in office.

SABI partners end health monitoring visit in Gao, eastern Sierra Leone

Representatives of partner organizations in the Strengthening Accountability and Building Inclusion (SABI) project have concluded a monitoring visit to Gao Village with calls for urgent action by the government on the community’s deplorable healthcare facility.

Goa is located in Dama Chiefdom in the eastern Kenema District. Its over 400 population relies on only one health facility – Gao Maternity Community Health post.

Sierra Leone gets first Prison Beauty Queen

Twenty year old Sia Kembe from Bo was crowned 'Miss Correctional' on Friday in the maiden edition of the National Female Inmates Beauty Pageant.

Ms Kembe beat nine other fellow inmates drawn from correctional centers across the country.

The Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) hopes to use the annual event as a way of reforming the inmates, in line with the idea of correctional system.

Sierra Leone’s economic outlook “challenging”

While Sierra Leone’s economy continues to recover, its outlook remains challenging, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) review mission has found.

The mission which concluded its review on Wednesday November 13, hailed the government's development programme and noted that its focus on improving its citizens' well-being is an ambitious endeavor. But it also had pointers for the government in its effort to meet its commitment in line with agreements with the Fund.

New Code of Conduct for teachers in Sierra Leone

The Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission (SLTSC) has validated a new Code of Conduct for teachers which is expected to come into force next academic year.

Officials at the Commission said the new code, which is a revised version of the existing Code, is geared towards increasing efficiency and promoting professionalism in the teaching profession.

Director, Teacher –Employee Relations, SLTSC, Princess Mattia, told Politico that the reviewed Code was designed to match with current laws and regulations of the country.
