Sierra Leone energy agency wants over Le300 billion as subsidy

The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has said it needs government to subsidize it up to the tune of Le300 billion in 2020. The power distribution body gave the forecast during the presentation of their budget and strategic plan for the 2020 Financial Year.

EDSA is a semi-autonomous state enterprise. As part of their functions they buy power and supply them to homes.

SLRTC wants to branch into haulage

The Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) looks set to branch into haulage as part of the parastatal’s plan to diversify its operations. The management of the Corporation says the shift is also part of its desire to increase its revenue base.

The revelation was made at the ongoing national budget presentation hearings in Freetown.

New Sierra Leone Infantry Brigade for Kenema

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) is currently executing plans of establishing a new infantry brigade in the eastern part of Sierra Leone, to be headquartered in Kenema.

According to Major Yayah Brima, Public Relations Officer of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), the establishment of the new army brigade is in accordance of the current review of the MOD/RSLAF structure, which calls for the establishment of an infantry brigade in every region across the country.

Air Cote d’Ivoire to resume flight to Sierra Leone

Air Cote d’Ivoire is set to resume flight to Sierra Leone, after about a year of absence due to a disagreement over a court verdict on a suit brought against it by an aggrieved passenger.

The first flight of the airline is scheduled to land at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

The airline stopped flying to Freetown in January 2018, shortly after losing a bitter court battle that left it parted with US$11,000 as compensation to the aggrieved passenger.

Dozens feared missing as building collapsed in southern Sierra Leone

Dozens of people are feared missing after a house under construction in Bo collapsed on Wednesday.

The incident which happened along the Bo-Tiama Highway, involved a three storied building. Sources say the incident happened during a process of concreting the third floor of the building.

Most of the victims are believed to be casual workers.
