The Ministry of Trade and Industry has in a sensitization drive engaged traders across six districts in Sierra Leone on the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), and agreement on Special Economic Zone (SEZ Policy).

The programme which was held in Kenema on 18th October 2023 targeted traders from Bo, Pujehum, Kenema, Kono, Moyamba, and Kailahun Districts.

In a bid to achieve their deliverables for Fiscal Year 2024 and to open trade in the sub-region, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) is determined to resuscitate the Koindu International Market.

The Ministry officials spoke about the issue while presenting their 2024 budget allocation at the Ministry of Finance on the 17th of October 2023.

Delivering a keynote address during the launch of a Fiscal and Policy Brief on COVID-19 in Sierra Leone, Mattia Kou Dimoh said the impacts of the pandemic would continue to live “with us” for the ‘foreseeable future’ despite Sierra Leone’s effort to defeat the virus.

A presentation of five key deliverables earmarked by the Ministry of Energy for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 has indicated plans to install solar street lights nationwide.

The ministry was part of other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) presenting their budget for FY 2024 to the Ministry of Finance, Freetown on the 16^th of October 2023.

Traders in the South and Eastern Regions have expressed concerns over border trade in the district, saying that Immigration Officers deprive them by allowing foreigners to export goods to neighbouring countries.

Women to Women group in Kandu Leppiama Chiefdom in Kenema district with support from local authorities in the chiefdom have launched a periodic market at Gbogboma village as part of promoting Agricultural productivity and business in the area.

Speaking at the launch of the market  on the 12^th October 2023 Chairlady of Woman to Woman Frankell James Vibbi explained that she decided on putting a group together which has been heavily involved in agriculture, explaining that it led to the idea of having a market.
