Bo residents complain over housefly infestation

A rise in the population of houseflies in a section of Bo has raised public health concerns among residents and health officials in the southern district.

Three communities - Pendegumahun, Kpetema and Majama - all in Kakua Chiefdom, are directly affected by the situation which the people blame on a nearby dumpsite in Mile Five, which is located five miles outside the Bo township. The affected communities are located within the five miles radius.

FBC academic staff get first female President

Members of the Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Fourah Bay College (FBC) have elected Williete James as their new President. Mrs James who is the Head of Mass Communication Department at the college, becomes the first woman to be elected to lead the association.

Parliament approves $50 million expansion agreement for IPAM

Parliament has ratified a US$50million agreement between the developer, Femab Properties Limited and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM).

The approval on Tuesday paves the way for the construction of an ultra-modern campus at Bureh Town which will address a growing problem of accommodation for students of the college.

Don Bosco launches campaign amidst rise in sexual assault cases

An investigation by Don Bosco Fambul has revealed that Police have already recorded 996 sexual assault cases from January to March this year.

In a press statement issued by the organization, it said 963 of these cases were sexual penetration, whiles the remaining 28 were rape cases.

The figure is an indication of the alarming nature of the situation of violence against women is. The investigation by Don Bosco was done to inform a newly launched campaign titled: “Enough is Enough Stop Child Abuse!”

Sierra Leone breaks silence on US mass deportations

The Government of Sierra Leone has commented for the first time on the latest decision by the United States of America to deport a large number of undocumented migrants to their countries of origin.

Ambassador to the United States of America, Sidique Abou-Bakarr Wai, told Politico in a telephone interview that they were closely monitoring the situation.
