Sierra Leone braces up for money laundering evaluation

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has announced that Sierra Leone is preparing for a mutual evaluation on money laundering, terrorist financing and other activities that threatens the financial system of the country. They made the announcement at a press conference at their office on Tuesday.

Police release 13 Collegiate students

Sierra Leone Police have released 13 pupils of the West African Methodist Collegiate School. According to the Police the kids were arrested because of riotous conduct and disorderly behaviour on Monday.

On Monday a total of 25 pupils from the school were arrested following reports of riots in the area by the school pupils, which then later provoked more violent reactions by the larger student population.

Sierra Leone Police on Monday arrested 25 pupils of the West African Methodist Collegiate School. The Police say the kids were arrested because of riotous conduct and disorderly behaviour.

Official Police accounts from the Congo Cross Police Station states that Police went to the school following reports of riots in the area by the school pupils, which then later provoked more violent reactions by the larger student population.

Traditional leaders renew call for a Chamber of Chiefs

Paramount Chiefs from across the country have renewed their call for a special house of representatives to be set up comprising their membership.

Paramount Chief Alhaji Konoh Bundoh II of Gurama-Kono Chiefdom in Kono District made the latest call on behalf of his colleagues on the final day of the peace and national cohesion conference held at the Bintumani Conference Center in Freetown.

Statistics Sierra Leone defends mass sacking of "incompetent" staffers

The management of Statistics Sierra Leone has defended the sacking of over 200 workers it says are incompetent.

Officials of the government agency responsible for generating statistical data on Friday confirmed the dismissal of a total of 244 employees who they say were found to be either not qualified to serve in the positions they occupied or were recruited through the wrong procedure.

A new recruitment drive has been put in motion to fill the vacancies created by these sacking, they said.

Court acquits Sierra Leone FA President, Sec Gen

The suspended President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Isha Johansen, has been cleared of all corruption charges by the High Court of Sierra Leone.

The court presided over by Justice Reginald Fynn announced the verdict on Monday. Suspended Secretary General of SLFA Chris Kamara was also acquitted. Both Johansen and Kamara were on trial on three count charges on corruption related offences, a case which was brought against them by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Kenya, Rwanda share experience at Sierra Leone’s peace conference

Three African countries with similar history of unrests as Sierra Leone shared their experiences trying to bridge their differences at the just concluded peace conference in Freetown.
The National Dialogue Forum Democratic Consolidation for Peace and National Cohesion Conference, which was held from May 23 to 25, was aimed at uniting the country which is seen as sharply divided along political, ethnic and regional lines.
