Save the Children launches ‘every last child’ campaign

Save the children International will today launch an ‘every last child’ campaign at the Miatta Conference Hall.

The campaign, which will target both boys and girls with special preference to child mothers, was designed to help advocate for every Sierra Leonean child to have access to quality education, protection of their fundamental human rights and proper health care without marginalization. It will also specifically targets vulnerable children like children of beggars, child traders, and child mothers.

Sierra Leone opposition says ruling party undermines democracy

The opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has accused the governing All People's Congress (APC) of undermining the country’s fledgling democracy.

Lahai Laurence Leema, acting Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party in the country hadaccused the APC of seeking to divide theirparty. He singled out Local Government Minister, Maya Kai Kai and Robin Fallay, both of whom are strong APC figures,as masterminds behind the alleged latest move to divide the opposition.

UN Police chief calls for police civilian partnership

The United Nations Police Chief has called for a stronger partnership between the Sierra Leone Police and the public.

Ms. Maria Appelblom, Chief of the Standing Police Capacity (SPC) in the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), said while Sierra Leone had made meaningful gains in the area of community policing it needed to strengthen the collaboration between the police force and the public.

EU, UNDP renew partnership on electoral assistance

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with the European Union has renewed a partnership to supporting electoral processes in countries around the world.

The renewed partnership was announced at the end of a meeting between senior officials of both sides to reaffirm their long –standing relationship.

A revised European Commission-UNDP Electoral Assistance Guidelines was also signed, which aims at enhancing electoral assistance.

Project to curb youth violence in Sierra Leone

Three local non-governmental organizations, with funding from the European Union, have undertaken a research to identify and address the causes of violence among children and youths in the country.

The organizations: Centre for Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA), Search for Common Ground (SFCG), and Society for Learning and Yearning for Equal Opportunities (SLYEO), are mainly engaged in activities that border on women’s empowerment and youth advocacy.

Sierra Leone motorbike taxi riders protest restriction

Commercial motor bike riders (Okada) on Monday took to the streets of Freetown protesting against police instructions that they should not ride within the Central Business District,(CBD), of Freetown.

The bike riders rode through Siaka Stevens Street to Up Gun in the east end of Freetown honking the horns of their bikes and demanding freedom to operate.
