Sierra Leone varsity announces projects for efficiency

Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Professor Ekundayo Thompson, has pronounced a continuation of the implementation of several development projects as part of his determination to ensure efficiency in the university administration.
One of these projects is the expansion of the Ajai Crowther Amphitheatre, which the VC said arose from the challenges in accommodating the increasing number of graduating students and their guests.
Ex-Comium workers appeal for terminal benefits

Former Comium employees have presented a position paper requesting government assistance for the payment of their terminal benefits.
The workers said when the defunct mobile operator was in operation their salaries were deducted with the promise that such monies would directly be paid to the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).
Sierra Leone lecturers end sit-down strike

Fourah Bay College lecturers late yesterday called off their sit-down strike which had gone on for almost two weeks. Lectures resume today - 14 March.
According to a letter from the Registrar of the University of Sierra Leone, Sorie Dumbuya to the Academic Staff Association (ASA), the deal was reached “following a series of meetings brokered by the FBC Alumni Association” between the university and the Academic Staff Association.
Lightening kills 3 in Mile 91

Three people were struck by lightening in Mile 91 on Tuesday and died instantly, amid a heavy thunderstorm.
Three others were left in a state of comatose but are said to have recovered.
The three killed were a 14-year-old JSS 1 pupil who was washing her clothes, a 24-year-old who was passing by from fetching water with yellow jerrycans.
The incident happened in the same compound.
Among those who went into coma was a one-year-old boy, according to a police source.
10 to be investigated for match-fixing

GTI eyes polytech status

The dream of the Government Technical Institute (GTI) to graduate to a poly-technical institute has hit a snag after the Ministry of Education declined to grant it the necessary license, the institute’s administration has claimed. They said they have met all the necessary requirements expected of an institute to attain a poly-technical status.
