Sierra Leone govt agrees to dole out cash to Ebola survivors

Leaders of protesting Ebola survivors, who converged before state house in in Freetown, have told Politico that President Ernest Bai Koroma has promised to release some Le1.9 billion it has set aside to address their growing concerns.

Yusuf Kabba, leader of the survivors, said government officials whom they met with at State House, had agreed to make available the said money as early as this month.

Sierra Leone opposition fault population census results

Opposition politician and presidential aspirant, John Oponjo Benjamin, has casted doubt on the authenticity of the recently released provisional census results.

Mr Benjamin said the results were flawed and argued that this was set to be so from the unset of the process when the government refused to listen to opposition concerns.

Don Bosco plans for a therapeutic centre in Sierra Leone

Don Bosco Fambul is planning to construct a therapeutic centre designed for the treatment of mental disorders related to the effect of the Ebola virus disease, the children’s charity has said.

An official told Politico that the center will be built at Russell Village which is just a few miles from Waterloo in the Western Rural District.

Ebola: Sierra Leone deploys soldiers at border with Guinea

The Sierra Leone government last week announced stringent measures aimed at preventing the spread of the Ebola virus disease from Guinea.

Guinea is battle the viral disease in the second phase of the epidemic that first emerged in March 2014.

According to reports on Monday, at least eight people have died since March 17 when the second outbreak erupted in the country after it was declared free of the virus in December last year.

Sierra Leone conducts second round polio campaign

The second round of the national anti-polio vaccination campaign went underway on Friday targeting 1.462,000 children.

Children between 0 and 59 months were targeted in the exercise by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) which was scheduled to last from Friday April 1 to Monday April 4.
