500 armed men enter Liberia

A lawmaker of south-eastern Grand Gedeh County has raised alarm that after the recent meeting of chiefs and elders in Guiglo, La Cote d’Ivoire, which was attended by Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Alassane Ouattara, more than 500 foreign nationals from the Cote d’Ivoire side of the border have encroached on Liberian territory.

Sierra Leone President to launch rival tribal union

Months of battle for supremacy within the Limba ethnic group may be close to an end with the announcement of a compromise umbrella union.

The Malimba Development Union (MaDU) was unveiled last Thursday and is scheduled for a formal launch by President Ernest Bai Koroma next week.

The Limba community has been torn between the Limba Development Union (LDU) and the Akutay Friendly Association, both of which claim to be the legitimate umbrella body representing the interest of the Limba people.

Youths set police station ablaze over Ebola restrictions

Irate youths have burned down the police station in Barmoi Luma, following restrictions by police to stem the spread of Ebola in the Kambia District, north of Sierra Leone.

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Foday Dabor, confirmed last night that the incident followed violent scenes earlier between the youths and his men on the ground.

Sierra Leone rights record comes under review

Sierra Leone’s human right record is set to be examined this Wednesday, 27, January, 2016by the United Nations Human Right Council, the second such reviews to be conducted almost five years ago.

The session would focus on how far Sierra Leone had gone to address outstanding human rights concerns in the country since the last review on 6 May, 2011.
