Sierra Leone Post Ebola Recovery Plan launched

As the number of new Ebola cases continues to drop, the Sierra Leone government has launched its Post Ebola Recovery Plan.

The blue print, launched by President Ernest Bai koroma at the Miatta Conference Center in Freetown, contains four priority areas, aimed at addressing the setback occasioned by the devastating effect of the Ebola epidemic.

Orange bids to buy Airtel

The global telecommunications giant Orange maybe on its way into the Sierra Leone’s market, as reports have indicated it`s in talks to secure the license of the mobile operator Airtel in the country.

NERC warns against underreporting of deaths

The head of the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC), Retired Major Palo Conteh has warned chiefs in the so-called ‘silent districts’ against under reporting of deaths.

Major Conteh said reports of the number of deaths in some districts suggested underreporting of the reality.

“The reporting of deaths and deaths alert rates in some district do not match the expected natural death rates per heads of population,” he told journalists at a press conference held in Freetown on Wednesday.

Balogun defends procurement of buses

Transport and Aviation Minister Leonard Balogun Koroma has defended the controversial purchase of the 100 which have been the subject of an investigation for possible procurement violations.

Balogun told lawmakers in the well of parliament that all procurement procedures had been followed in the process of acquiring the vehicles.

Parliament finally approves Kenema Council budget

Parliament on Tuesday finally approved the contentious Kenema City Council 2015 budget after a protracted back and forth.

The parliamentary oversight committee on Finance had repeatedly refused to give the document its blessing, citing anomalies in spending in the previous year.

The budget which was submitted to the committee early this year saw the appearance of core staff of the Council, include the mayor of Kenema, on four different occasions to defend it in futility.

Caritas on psychosocial training for religious leaders

Caritas International - Sierra Leone Tuesday commenced a three-day training workshop for pastoral and psychosocial councilors in Freetown. The move is part of effort to help provide psychosocial healing and support for over ten thousand Sierra Leoneans affected by the Ebola outbreak.

Ebola funds: Parliament endorses PAC report

Parliament on Tuesday endorsed the report of the Public Account Committee (PAC) on its findings on the controversial Ebola audit report.

The vote to endorse the report came after a protracted debate in the well of parliament and it followed months of investigations by the committee which invited dozens of people or representatives of institutions named in the report.
