Sam-Sumana changes lawyer - Charles Margai takes over

Sacked Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana has replaced his lawyer Blyden Jenkins-Johnston with veteran politician Charles Francis Margai in his ongoing case in the Supreme Court.

The appointment of Mr Margai to the hot seat was confirmed in a letter done by Mr Sam-Sumana himself, a copy of which was obtained by Politico.

Space for free expression shrinking - SLAJ President laments

The space for freedom of expression is gradually shrinking in Sierra Leone, Kelvin Lewis, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) lamented over the weekend.

He cited a recent spate of clampdown on both the traditional media and social media users as suggesting hard time for journalism in the country and this, he said, required journalists to reflect thoroughly.

The role the media played in the fight against the Ebola virus disease can`t go unnoticed, Kelvin Lewis, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) said Friday.

SMART wins international award

The Social Mobilisation and Respectful Burials Through faith-based Alliance (SMART) consortium has won the prestigious Bond International Award for its effort in stemming the spread of the Ebola virus disease in Sierra Leone.

At the height of the epidemic, controlling the spread of the virus became difficult largely due several reasons, but mainly through unsafe burials. This had to do with lack of training and proper coordination.
