VP's sacking unifies opposition

The opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is once again in the Supreme Court, after its failed bid following the 2012 elections.

This time round the country`s main opposition party is merging with the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) in a joint suit that seeks to challenge a number of irregularities they say a number of actions by President Bai Koroma, his government and the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) have sparked in the constitutional process of the country.

50,000 children homeless in Sierra Leone - Don Bosco Fambul

Samuel Thomas Bojohn, the Assistant Director of Don Bosco Fambul, a charity organization specialized in child protection, said his organization has recorded nearly 50, 000 street children in Sierra Leone.

Out of this 2, 500 were in the Western Area, he said.

APPWA on constitutional review

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has engaged the All Political Parties Women Association (APPWA) on a two-day constitutional review exercise, held in Bo for APPWA members in the southern and eastern regions.

Commissioner Alhaji Muctarr William of the PPRC encouraged political parties to work on a gender policy that would be included in their individual parties’ constitutions. That, he said, would enable them to be at the helm of decision making process.

Agric. Ministry set to eradicate animal plague by 2030

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS), is set to eradicate ‘Peste des petits ruminants’ (PPR), an animal disease that kills 90 percent of its victims within days, by 2030.

This position was revealed by the ministry’s Deputy Minister I, Honorable Marie Jalloh, as the outcome of a meeting of ministers and over 300 representatives from regional bodies and international organizations. It was convened to discuss plans to eradicate the devastating animal disease.

SLPP youth vow to protest against police arrest

Young members of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) say they will demonstrate against police if they do not release their members.

On Saturday, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) arrested nine young members of the party, after over 100 members of the grass root wing demonstrated at the US embassy in Freetown on Thursday.
