Taiwanese Foundation to adopt eleven health facilities

The Buddhist Tzu chi Foundation, based in Taiwan, is set to adopt eleven healthcare facilities in Sierra Leone with the aim of equipping and enabling them provide maximum healthcare delivery services to highly vulnerable communities.

Seven hospitals and four clinics have been identified, including the government hospitals in Kenema and Bo, the PCMH, Connaught and the 34th Military hospitals in Freetown, as well as the government hospitals in Port Loko and Kambia.

Disables trained on advocating for their rights

The African Youths with Disability Network (AYDN), a local civil society organization, Monday began training for 23 disable people on how to develop policies and advocate for the promotion and protection of the rights of People With Disability (PWD).

The training session is being held at the organizations offices on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.

African Union Ebola response team in payment scam

The African Union (AU) Ebola response team in Sierra Leone seems to be in deep waters as issues of debts owed by it to various hotels and transporters have been unfolding over the last few weeks.

The AU is Africa`s premier continental bloc, comprising 54 member countries, and it is one of many international organizations presently in the country to help fight the Ebola epidemic.

‘Women should empower themselves economically and socially’ - Dep. Min. Soc Welfare

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs, Mustapha Bai Attilla, has called on the country’s women to empower themselves economically and socially as that would make them independent.

He was speaking at a symposium organized by Sierra Leonean women in the media (WIMSAL) to commemorate International Women’s Day.

This year`s commemoration was held on the Theme: ‘Make it Happen-enforce Sexual Offences Act, review 1861 abortion law, stop early marriage and rape.’

Le50 million boost for correctional centers

Prison Watch Sierra Leone, a nongovernmental organization, has donated assorted food items and water and sanitation materials to eleven correctional centers across the country.  

The donation exercise had been ongoing since early this year and last Friday`s presentation at the Approved School, a juvenile detention facility at Thunder Hill in the east end of Freetown, marked the end.

Reopening of schools shifted to April

The much debated reopening of schools, which was previously slated for March 30, has been shifted to April 14, 2015.

This disclosure was made in parliament Friday where MPs were been updated on the status of Education in the country.
