ACC investigates students' union

The Anti-Corruption Commission in Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone, is presently investigating executive members of the Kono Student Union (KONSU) over alleged embezzlement.

KONSU is an association comprising students in tertiary institutions across the country who acquired lower level education in Kono District. The students in each tertiary institution formed themselves into a unit, resulting into 27 units.

FCC unveils low cost housing for Allen Town

Mayor of the Freetown municipality, Franklyn Bode Gibson, has unveiled a one-year low cost housing project for Allen Town community in the east end the capital.

Speaking at the project site in Madina Section, Allen Town, Mayor Gibson described the project as “a major development,” stating that twenty houses would be constructed, together with two boreholes to provide water for the community.

Africell transition into Leones billing was a success

Africell’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura statement has come to pass. He promised last week that they will comply with the regulations of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) to change their billing system from units to Leones.

The process which was announced to their subscribers at a press conference on Wednesday 11th February 2015 came into effect on Sunday 15th February 2015 without any technical hitch in its network system.

WHO warns Ebola may stay for another year

The World Health Organisation (WHO) spokesperson in Freetown has said that the Ebola outbreak may last for another year if Sierra Leone is not able to end the outbreak before the dry season.

Pieter Desloovere told Politico that the Ebola Virus Disease, which struck in May last year, affected 10,934 and killed 3,341 so far, could extend its stay in the country, the hardest hit in the region, if adequate measures were not taken to end its spread beyond April this year.

Plan Int’l warns against Ebola complacency

Chief Executive Officer of Plan International resident in the United Kingdom has disclosed plans to eradicate the Ebola Virus epidemic in the country but warns against complacency.
Nigel Chapman, who was on a visit to Sierra Leone, told journalists at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown, that as a way of supporting the government they had mobilised $15 million to contribute to the eradication of the disease and minimise impact on affected children, families and communities through public information campaigns.

Pujehun "gang rape" case sent to High Court
