Calls for more reduction in fuel prices

Despite last week`s announcement reducing pump prices of fuel, there have been calls for more reduction.

Consumers and civil society activists say the new changes announced last week, about seven months since global oil prices began tumbling, were too little too late.

According to the new pricing regime, a litre of petrol was sliced from Le 4,500 to Le 3,700. The same applies to diesel and kerosene.

Diaspora Focus awards solidarity in Ebola fight

Diaspora Focus, an international humanitarian organization in Sierra Leone, has awarded individuals whom they said had so far done a meritorious humanitarian work in the fight against Ebola.

The organization’s Director, Emmanuel Stafford, whiles speaking to Politico, said their mandate was to help under privileged both at home and abroad, and added that they also aim at uniting families.

Two remanded for piracy

A magistrates’ Court in Freetown has remanded two accused persons, who allegedly pirated a local non-alcoholic beverage, ‘Bitter Kola energizer’ a product of Kadco Sierra Leone Company Limited.

This was the second time that the two accused had been remanded for infringement of copyright, contrary to the country’s copyright Laws.

RELAXING RESTRICTIONS AS EBOLA FADES AWAY

There's a new lease of life in Sierra Leone these days, well since De Pa relaxed travel restrictions he slammed on the nation at the height of the Ebola epidemic, using emergency powers. Road transport buses have returned to Kenema for example and the mood of the nation is up again. Slightly, it must be stressed.

Sierra Leone reopens schools March

Eight months since they were closed due to Ebola, schools across Sierra Leone are to reopen in March.

According to a statement from State House late yesterday, the decision was reached at a consultative meeting with line ministries and development partners chaired by President Ernest Bai Koroma.

It is not clear what will happen to the several schools being used as Ebola care and treatment centres.

No justice for Joshua Nicol

Three months after FBC lecturer and journalist Joshua Nicol was attacked and wounded during a robbery at his home at Wilberforce, the police have so far made no arrest and "it appears as if the matter is dying a natural death,” said Nicol.

Latest reports indicate that he will almost certainly have to undergo surgery to correct a problem with his left shoulder caused by the repeated hitting and stabbing he received from the criminals during the robbery.
