The Sierra Leone Football Association has vowed to continue with it plans to increase the number of participants in the Sierra Leone Premier League from 14 to 16 teams. This fresh commitment comes amidst controversy whether they used the right procedure to add two more teams to the top tier league.

Last week the FA released a statement that the league will be expanded to accommodate 16 teams. The statement further went on to specifically single out the Northern region to play for the extra two spots.

Kamboi Eagles have written a letter of protest to the Premier League Board demanding that Mighty Blackpool doesn’t play their game in hand with RSLAF.

The Eagles who are currently third in the league with 33 points lead Mighty Blackpool by two points who are on 35. Mighty Blackpool who had their game with RSLAF postponed will move to third place if they win their game in hand.

The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has banned Premier league players from taking part in six aside mini leagues. The ban comes following the spotting of at least three Premier League Players in the opening fixture of the Portuguese Town Amateur Football Association football competition.

 “All Premier League players are banned from playing six aside league competitions across the Western Region,” WAFA statement reads.

Hurray! Lions are champions

So East End Lions were crowned last night following their 0-0 draw with rivals, Mighty Blackpool. They finish the season unbeaten. 24 games, 11 draws, 13 wins, 0 loss; that’s their stats.

Last night’s ceremony though, was chaotic because the Premier League Board was not ready to give out the trophy on the night. But what can you say, its Lions’ trophy, they have won it and they should get it whenever and wherever they want.

Take that away, this has been a remarkable season for Lions.

The Ministry of Sports and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) are in a standoff over a Le720million donation. The money which was approved by President Julius Maada Bio is meant to assist the FA for its administrative cost and the running of the FA Cup. The Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh told Politico over the weekend that the FA have ‘rejected’ the money.

When East End Lions drew 0-0 with Freetown City FC (FCFC) in March, there was outrage. The Lions fans threw sachet of water on the players and coaches. Around the same time, FC Kallon were leading the table by two points.

Finally, just over a week ago, Lions were confirmed champions with two games to spare. The irony here is that they won against the same FCFC team 4-0 to finally win the title.

When Madagascar defeated Nigeria in their final game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, they surpassed every expectation that anyone had about them. For a team that is making its debut in this tournament, they have found themselves in the quarter finals. Their performance has shown us all that beating Nigeria was not just a flash in the pan, but a sign of remarkable progress.
