WATERLOO WATERLOO WATERLOO

This is not the first time we are calling attention to the situation at Waterloo. On this issue, Waterloo doesn’t mean the town alone. We are talking about all the areas around Waterloo, from including Lumpa right up to Newton. We are asking the authorities to move extremely fast and deal with lawlessness and crime in Waterloo itself and the surrounding area.

NO TRUE GREENBELT ON WESTERN AREA MOUNTAINS?

Successive governments in post-conflict Sierra Leone have made quite a fuss about keeping the mountains along the Western Area green and free from encroachment by people desperate to build houses of all shapes and sizes. To stop the depletion of the forested areas, particular points were identified and labeled as Green Belt. No building of any sort was to be built on the greenbelt and that was the emphasis from the outset.

FBI RAIDS THE HOME OF DONALD TRUMP BUT KING MESSI IS ABOVE OUR LAWS

Sierra Leoneans woke up on Tuesday morning to news that the FBI raided the home of Donald Trump in Florida. The former US president had FBI guests he didn’t invite but they were there to do the work of the Great United States of America. We are told that the FBI wouldn’t have gone there had they not established what is known as PROBABLE CAUSE before a judge to be granted the necessary warrant.

SMOKING IN A PUBLIC PLACE IS BANNED IN SALONE

We are extremely happy about the ban on tobacco advertising and smoking in public throughout Sierra Leone. This is a good piece of legislation that this parliament has passed and we wonder why the bill lasted so long on Tower Hill. We don’t have precise figures but we believe the lives of many non-smokers and smokers have been saved.

FAYIA SELLU TAKES OVER AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS

IG Sovula is well and truly now a retired police officer. Compared to some of his predecessors, Sovula didn’t stay long in office but he will be remembered for his style and the few controversies around his administration, so well documented on social media. We wish him well in his retirement. Who knows, he may soon pop up somewhere as a consultant.

WHAT ARE THE DOCTORS OF SIERRA LEONE REALLY LOOKING FOR?

Honestly we are struggling to understand what our doctors are really looking for. They threatened a strike some weeks ago and entered negotiations with the government as expected. The government then issued a statement announcing a deal to avert the strike. Few hours later our doctors issued their own statement pouring cold water on the government statement – essentially saying their demands were not fully met so they would still walk out as planned.
