Man in court for illegal possession of ammunition

An accused, Yayah Fullah from Kolisokoh Village in Bombali District has appeared in a Freetown Magistrate court for alleged illegal possession of 192 bullets. 

The prosecution witness one(PW1),  Police Inspector Sulaiman Koroma  in Charge of Sauoulia Village Police Checkpoint, Bombali District  testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at Pademba Road Court No.1 on Thursday 17th August 2023 that he was on duty at the checkpoint when the accused arrived in a vehicle.

 

Led in eveedence by Inspector Tamba A.P Sellu, PW1 said Police conducted a search and discovered 14 bullets of Glock-17(G-17) pistol in the vehicle.

 He told the court that he then alerted authorities about it and called for reinforcement. 

The court also learnt from him that the team of Police went together with the accused to Kolisokoh Village, Safrokoh Chiefdom in Bombali District, where the accused was heading.  

“When we reached, we asked stakeholders at the Place about where he was lodged. “In the room we discovered a Glock-17 Magazine,” he told the court.

The police witness said they also searched another room where they discovered 178 AK-47 bullets. According to him, the police took the accused together with the exhibits to the police station for further questioning. He confirmed to the court that the bullets shown to him in the courtroom were indeed the exhibits.

During cross examination by the accused, who did not have a legal representation, PW1 told the court that the accused informed him at the Police Station that his brother, Osman Bangura who is an ex-combatant owned the ammunition.

The accused faces four counts of possession of small arms, having in control of small arms without license, unlawful concealment of arms, and keeping greater numbers of small arms without license.

The case resumes on the 27th August this year.
