Police testifies in Hagan Street murder trial

By Aminata Phidelia Allie

Police Constable, 7930 Sheka Mansaray of the criminal investigations department at Eastern Police Division has told Magistrate Steven Conteh in Freetown that he conducted a search on the alleged crime scene at 10 Hagan Street where he met the body of a deceased, Abubakarr Bangura, lying on the steps in a pool of blood.

“I also saw fragments of broken bottles around where the deceased lay” he said, adding that when the premises of the first accused, Mohamed Ishmael Bagura, were searched, they discovered a bloodstained multi-coloured handled knife under the bed which he said was taken together with the remains of the deceased to the government consultant pathologist for a forensic test to be carried out.

Defense lawyer, Ishmael Philip Mammie challenged the witness as to where the said knife had come from, and told him that the second accused, in her statement to the police had mentioned a knife that had been given to the deceased by his mother with which the deceased had earlier stabbed the first accused.

The police witness confirmed this statement to be true but told the court that the said knife was a black handled one and that he didn’t investigate the statement further because he thought it was irrelevant.

The matter was adjourned to 21 May for further hearing.

Mohamed Ishmael Bagura and his girlfriend, Aminata Sanu, are charged with the murder of Abu Bakarr Bangura, a brother to the first accused.
