Sport-betting company, Mercury International over the weekend donated Le 90 million towards the ongoing Super League organized by ten Premier League clubs.
Samir Hassanyeh, Chairman of Mercury Charity Foundation told the league organizers that his company wanted to see football grow especially when it involved the elite clubs in the country. He said “the premier league is yet to start and I see this initiative as a good venture for these clubs to come together and to play football”.
Hassaniyeh promised continued and further support to football for as long as Mercury continues to operate in Sierra Leone.
One of the organisers, former Leone Stars international, Mohamed Kallon said, “We are impressed by this support” adding that it showed “Mercury wants to see the growth of football in this country”. He assured that the money would be used for its rightful purpose”.
Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai another member of the organising team, noted that with the new support the prize money would be significantly increased and the competition would be improved to make it more attractive.
Meanwhile, the league continues tomorrow with Mighty Blackpool locking horns with Freetown City FC at the Kaytee field while FC Kallon will travel to Tongo to face Gem Stars.
