The opposition Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party (SLPP) in Kono has re-elected Ahmed Tamba Pimbi as the District Chairman after beating his challenger, Askia Baryoh by four votes.
Pimbi polled 14 votes against Bayoh's 10 votes in the second round of voting in the party's district convention held in Koidu Town.
In his victory remarks immediately after the elections, the chairman expressed thanks and appreciation to the delegates and all party members "for reposing confidence in me and to keep me in the job for the next two years".
He said his administration would take the party to a new direction that would return it to power in 2017. He embraced his contender and invited him to join his administration to push the party agenda forward.
Speaking to Politico, the defeated candidate welcomed the invitation and described the election as "transparent, free and fair" and pledged his support for the chairman. He said he has assured the newly-elected chairman that he would do everything within his power to make him succeed during his second term in office.
