LOGUS KOROMA COMPENSATED AT LAST: WELL DONE SIR!
True to form, De Pa has compensated Logus Koroma for his recent political kite-flying by appointing him Minister of Transport and Aviation. De Pa never ceases to amaze us.
By the tone of the State House press release denying that De Pa had a third-term agenda, we thought he was so embarrassed by all the shouts of disapproval that engulfed the country that he wouldn’t touch Logus with a one hundred feet barge pole anymore. But as things have now turned out, we were very wrong.
De Pa did not only refuse to name and shame Logus for taking his sycophancy too far, he has now asked him to run the important Ministry of Transport and Aviation.
Well, well, well this is De Pa’s Sierra Leone. Many people have found themselves in serious public offices today by the tried and tested method of going on radio or writing in newspapers that De Pa is the only man capable of leading Sierra Leone, a kind of Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda – president for life. The next trick is to keep abusing leading members of the main opposition, trying to reduce their esteem in the eyes of even their own supporters and blowing every piece of “negative” around them completely out of proportion. A presidential appointment will surely be in the bag – ask Logus Koroma.
In the name of clarity, was Logus assigned the task of flying the third-term kite or what? Did State House pull back just because public reaction was very much against any such discussion? We don’t expect to get any answers but his ministerial appointment tells us the whole story.
Meanwhile, we have to keep an eye on our new man at the UN. He loves going to the Caribbean to visit his in-laws. There are important votes coming up in New York and he will not be allowed to vote by Skype. He has to be there.
By the way, what is the fate of Abubakarr Multi-Kamara who was recalled from China to take the UN post? Has he been sacked even before flying into New York? We are just curious, please don’t get angry with us. In any case we are Sierra Leoneans.
INCOMPETENT FOOTBALLERS RUIN CHIEF SIDIKIE’S DAY
Chief Sidikie would have crowned his one week in the sun with a fantastic win by the national football team, Leone Stars against Tunisia on home soil but the over-rated and over-paid players messed up everything.
We saw Chief Sidikie doing foot patrol between his office and State House when De Pa was away in Tokyo. The chief had about a dozen men in black coats around him and they looked fierce and ready. Chief Sidikie entered State House compound without much noise and we saw him talk to a few security people in the outer lawn. We thought that was good – he was asserting his authority as the second most powerful man in this country.
Then the other big opportunity for the chief to tell the nation that he is still powerful was at hand. The national stadium was full to capacity when Chief Sidikie welcomed the both teams in that crucial World Cup encounter. The chief sat there during the period when Leone Stars pretended to be in charge of proceedings. As soon as the chief left, Leone Stars messed up. Even with privileged access on the roads, chief hadn’t reached his mansion when the Tunisians nailed our World Cup coffin.
We thank the chief very much for asserting himself once again after a few months of unexplained inertia. He was elected by the people of this country to do the job of a Vice President not to sit in an office and allow the people’s mandate to be hijacked.
We are waiting to cover your next public function sir.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE WAKE UP THE EUROPEAN UNION?
The European Union must now wake up to the suffering of the people of Leicester, Tree Planting, Kortright and the almost four thousand students of Fourah Bay College who’ve been without water and electricity for almost two months because of a road project the EU is funding.
An EU source told us recently they were only providing funds and the Rue De La Paix project is a Sierra Leone issue. We absolutely disagree. The EU cannot allow a project they are funding to cut water and electricity to thousands of people and pretend they have no idea that is the case.
With our own people in SLRA under Petito’s iron hand misbehaving so badly, our last hope was in the EU saving us by insisting that a company as stretched and incompetent as CSE must never be allowed to even bid for that contract. Now look at the tragedy in which the people of those affected communities found themselves.
How can a whole college campus run without water and electricity even for a few hours? We are getting to two months now in this situation. How can tens of thousands of people in some of the most difficult communities in poor Sierra Leone be deprived of water and what little electricity they enjoyed even in the best of times by an EU sponsored project?
We know this country needs help from outside to build roads and other infrastructure because we have simply not managed our own resources well, but where such support is going to cause so much suffering to the people, we must reject it. This project is killing people. If this happened in Brussels or Paris, the people would be on the streets demonstrating and some politicians and bureaucrats would have resigned already.
“COMPULSORY RETIREMENTS, SACKINGS”…NEXT?
There’s still lots of debate going on as to how Pallo Conteh with his two hundred million leones cash in Ghana-must-go bags under his armpit arrived at the recommendations he tabled at the meeting of the Defence Council that culminated into the suspicious sackings and “compulsory retirements” in the Sierra Leone military.
We are conducting interviews now with some of the victims of Pallo Conteh’s cry for revenge, so watch this space.
However, we now want to make our own recommendations to the Police Council headed by Chief Sidikie so that by next week, the media will be called to police headquarters for a news conference about “compulsory retirements” and transfers.
Compulsory Retirement:
1. IG FRANCIS MUNU
This guy has caused so much pain to many families since he took over as IG. His shoot to kill policy has led to countless deaths of absolutely innocent people.
His method of selective justice has put even Acha Kamara to shame. All Munu cares about is keeping his job. He has destroyed our country’s human rights record and failed to tackle armed robbery and 419 crimes in our country. The Police Council must now put an end to his leadership of the police and give us what we deserve.
2. THE 491ers FRIEND IN KENEMA
It was on that policeman’s watch that an Indian national was allegedly kidnapped and held for ransom for nine months by Sierra Leone’s upcoming Mexico-style criminals operating out of Kenema. He even denied a kidnap happened. We are waiting for the courts to confirm what we know to be the truth. In the meantime, this officer must go.
TRANSFER:
1. POLICE SPOKESMAN - SAMURA
This officer needs a rest from being the face of the SLP. He loves the limelight that comes with being spokesman but the truth is the man is mentally and physically tired. We are all now used to his speech patterns, the words and phrases he likes using and his abiding belief that his colleagues never do wrong. His idea of being a spokesman is refusing to take responsibility even when the weight of truth is clear.
We recommend that he is transferred to a section away from any contact with the public for the next two years. We think he has a future in the police but his Public Relations capability needs some brushing up.
We recommend that Samura be sent for training in South Africa for about two years. He should be fresh and ready to go by 2016.
MORE RECOMMENDATIONS SOON!
