A 33-year-old man accused of fraud has been ordered to stand trial in the High Court by Magistrate Abu Bakarr Binneh-Kamara of court No. 1 in Freetown.
Foday Marah was making his eighteenth appearance at the magistrate court for preliminary investigations on five counts of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences.
The prosecution alleges that the accused, on diverse dates between 1 November 2012 and 31 January 2013, obtained money from Abdul Sillah on the pretence of facilitating the latter’s travel to Australia.
The accused is alleged to have obtained the sum of Le 7,940,000 from the complainant.
Magistrate Binneh-Kamara said that since his court lacked jurisdiction to try the matter, it should be committed to the High Court which he duly did, but not before granting him bail in the sum of Le 100 million and one surety who must surrender a titled deed and be resident of the Western Area.
Meanwhile at Court No.2, Magistrate Komba Kamanda committed to the High Court the trial of an alleged case of robbery with aggravation and malicious damage.
According to the prosecution, the accused, Alhassan Jalloh, on April 14 this year, being armed with scissors, broke open a car door somewhere in Freetown and stole a mobile phone and other valuable items.
Jalloh was going through preliminary investigations on three counts of robbery with aggravation, malicious damage and carrying offensive weapon.
