Police trained to be professional

By Aminata Phidelia Allie

The head of the internal police complaints body, CDIID has revealed that ten of their officers have recently returned from training in Professional Responsibilities in Accra, Ghana.

Chief Superintendent Fayia Sellu told a news conference in Freetown that the training centred on how police officers should conduct themselves in the exercise of their constitutional duty as law enforcers, focusing on the handling of allegations of professional misconduct and indiscipline.

Speaking to Politico, the CDIID boss confessed that they also wanted to do a “comparative study” of how the Ghanaian police carry out their internal disciplinary responsibilities but noted that “only a few differences were spotted”.

Sellu said six of the ten officers were the Regional Co-ordinators of their administrative districts. He promised that they would implement whatever they learnt in Ghana “to improve on service delivery to the nation”.

Sponsored by the US Department of States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law, the training took place at the West African Regional Training Centre in Accra.
