Plan International in 500 bags of food aid scam

Food Aid Coordinator of Plan Sierra Leone is currently being investigated by the police in Bo and Moyamba after she allegedly failed to explain an attempt to swindle 520 bags of beans meant for deprived communities on board a DAF 280 truck.

According to the truck driver, one Mr Abu, he was contracted to transport the food items by Mamakor Demby, the food aid coordinator now in police custody in Moyamba.

He said they collected the items in broad day light, delivered them to a store keeper in Kenema and were paid for the services they rendered.

Asked whether he knew that the consignment was stolen, he said ‘no’ but confirmed that they have been called by the police in Freetown for possible questioning.

Our source in Moyamba said the food collected from the warehouse of Plan Sierra Leone in Moyamba town was to be distributed to people in Kowa chiefdom, Moyamba district but was diverted elsewhere. The police later discovered the stolen items, suggesting that they were bound for Freetown.

Police media director Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Samura confirmed the incident to Politico but could not elaborate; he however, assured that the matter was being investigated by the crime division in Bo and very soon they would be ready to talk on the matter.
