Of the ten countries expected to participate in the competition, only five countries - Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal, Guinea and Sierra Leone turned up.

According to the host association, SLVBA, the five countries - Cape Verde, Togo, Ghana, Niger and Cote d’Ivoire withdrew from the competition for unexplained reasons.

Speaking to Politico news, the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Volley Ball Association, Ahmed Khanou, everything was put in place to host the visiting countries for the three-day event. “With sponsorship from Africel and support from the National Association, we prepared the venue with a rebranded court for the completion”.

The tournament caters for both male and female categories. Four countries are expected to qualify to the world cup championship in Cyprus in July.
