The Association of Sierra Leone Journalists In exile (ASALJIE) in Sydney, Australia has supported several media houses with Laptops, Solar Lamps and a complete set of Encyclopedia. This was made possible through the involvement of David Tam-Baryoh and Alpha Rashid Jalloh, both journalists working in Freetown.
The presentation was done at the board room of the Independent Media Commission on Monday 4 June.
According to ASALJIE, late last year through the Kanga Schools Project they were able to secure a donation of 20 laptop computers, solar lamps to be distributed to journalists and a number of books to be strategically stored in Freetown where journalists can easily access them.
On behalf of the donors, Tam-Baryoh said ASSLJIE intends to support other media institutions that have not benefitted from this consignment.
18 Laptop computers were distributed to the following media institutions, CTN, Exclusive, Voice of the Handicapped, Culture Radio, Premier News, Radio Democracy 98.1, Politico, Standard Times, Awoko, Awareness Times, New Vision, Global Times, Independent Observer, Sierra Express Media and Radio Gbafth in Mile 91. The Independent Media Commission and Women in the Media Sierra Leone also received laptop computers.
3 solar lamps were presented to MAWOPNET radio in Kambia, Voice of Women in Mattru Jong and Radio Bontico in Bonthe.
