Assistant captain of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association Abubakarr Katta a.k.a Target, has said that, the Association has been “total disarray” in the last six Months and is “slowly dying.”

Katta said the present executive of the Boxing Association is not recognized by the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone and the International Boxing Association because, “They were illegally elected.”

The current national Boxing champion alleged that, “one of their illegal practices is, taking people who are not boxers to represent the country in international competitions as an opportunity for them to escape in the name of boxing”.  He also alleged that the present executive led by Eric Dura Sesay, high jacked the running of the Association from Karamba Koker whom he referred to as the substantive chairman of the Association.

Reacting to the allegations, the current Secretary General of the Association Christian Campbell in a phone interview with Politico Sport said, the allegations are not true and that it is was part of a plan to sabotage their executive “we have recently received the sum of one thousand US dollars, which we will use to organize domestic trials for the third African Nations Cup slated for September in Gabon or Nigeria.”

Campbell said, their executive was formally elected into office by delegates drawn from all over the country “even the Ministry Youth Employment and Sport and NOC were in attendance.”
