The world governing body of Athletics, IAAF has certified the presidency of Abdul Karim Sesay amidst controversy of a botched congress last December.
Sesay confirmed to Politico Sports that he has received several correspondences from IAAF which clearly shows that they are recognized his new executive.
“After the chaos at the previous venue we moved to another venue were the elective congress was held and that each and every member of the SLAA was in attendance including the NOC and the Ministry of sports.
Emerson Williams, an athlete representative in the SLAA and a supporter of the other contender Palo Conteh said that he felt dismayed to hear that IAAF has endorsed the executive of Abdul Karim Sesay, noting that there were no elections held, as the whole process ended in confusion as no executive member was voted for in that said Congress.
‘’They went ahead and conducted a clandestine election which was not approved by members, we have written to the IAAF about the said congress which ended abruptly, and we are still waiting on them before we move further’’ said Williams.
The Director of Sports Ibrahim Bangura insisted that as a council they still maintain their stance of not recognizing any election held without the supervision of the Sports Council and that the endorsement by the IAAF of the outcome of the said elective congress will not change the position of the Council.
