The Catholic Archbishop of the diocese Freetown, his Grace Bishop Tamba Charles has turned the sod for the construction of a church for the Catholic community at Fourah Bay College. In his homily at the annual thanksgiving service for the Saint Thomas Aquinas catholic community of the college which coincided with the launch of the building project, Archbishop Tamba Charles told his congregation that they should expect a lot of challenges as begin the construction of the church. He said such challenges should only strengthen their resolve to continue serving God. The Archbishop praised the catholic community of FBC, led by Father Joseph Kamanda for the initiative and thanked the University Authorities for providing the land to the catholic community to construct the church. The University Registrar Sorie Dumbuya who represented the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone said the University was pleased to provide the land for the construction of the church. He said the catholic community can always count on the University for assistance in bringing the project to a successful conclusion. According to Professor Edmond Nonie, an elder at Saint Thomas Aquinas, the construction of the church will start “in a few weeks”. He thanked all patrons who made generous donations towards church project and looked forward to more support from other friendly individuals and groups. (C) Politico 05/01/13
