Thirteen candidates from six ruling houses are vying to become Paramount Chief of the Peje Bonga chiefdom in the Kailahun district.
It followed a recent announcement by the National Electoral Commission declaring a vacancy in the chiefdom.
In a recent chiefdom meeting held at the Court Barray in Manowa, the Regent Chief (or Acting Chief) Musa Sheriff acknowledged the receipt of 13 application letters from various people from the various ruling houses in the chiefdom.
He said the candidates include Vandy Sei Kpandegua, Sylvester G. Samba, Francis Nyakeh Lamin, Edward Lamin Junior, Francis Gbaio Lamin, Joseph Mambu, Bayoh Fatorma Moriba, Lawrence M. Bayoh, Henry Kpejehumkpoh Bayoh, Abdul Rahman Majabie, Francis B. Kowah and Node K. Bayoh.
Regent Chief explained that some aspects of government policies relating to the paramount chieftaincy code and emphasised that all candidates must be law-abiding and respectful to the norms and values of fundamental human rights.
He said there were seven Sections within the chiefdom namely Sei Mayah, Mano, Bongei, Jao, Falloh, Mahwhei and Bulkor. He also told the gathering that there would be approximately 500 chiefdom councillors who make up the electorate.
He said the declaration of rights would start on the 30October while polling day will be on 27 November 2013, as per the NEC calendar of activities.
