King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) has donated the sum of two million dollars to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) to improve Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Science Laboratories and Libraries nationwide.
The Operation and Programmes Affairs Advisor Dr Mohamed H. Diab who is presently in Freetown on a three-day visit which will end today said his visit is to make sure that the ministry’s leadership agrees on how the money should be allocated to the different priority areas.
Diab asked that the ministry’s leadership identifies the focal person in the Ministry that they will be working with to ensure that they deliver on their targets.
Giving the background of the institution, he said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been pioneering humanitarian activities by serving international communities around the world, stating that the Kingdom realizes the significance of this role in alleviating human suffering and ensuring that all people are given the opportunity to live healthy, dignified lives.
“The leadership of Saudi Arabia established the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. The purpose of this important international organization is to provide humanitarian aid and relief to those in need outside of the Kingdom’s borders. The activities of the center were inaugurated in May of 2015 under the high patronage and guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, may God support him” said Diab.
The Advisor explained that programmes are chosen based on the eligibility of targeted recipients in the selected geographical areas, adding that the aid includes all humanitarian and relief sectors such as Relief Security, Shelter, Early Recovery, Protection, Education, Water and Sanitation, Nutrition, Health, Coordination, Logistics and Emergency Telecommunication amongst others.
The Deputy Minister 2 of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Madam Mamusu Massaquoi said that they had chosen WASH facilities to receive most of the money. The Minister stated that they had decided that they’ll equip community laboratories which will be accessible to different schools at different times.
She expressed delight and stated that they are happy that they’ve been given the opportunity to choose their priority areas and how the monies should be distributed.
