On Sunday evening, Red Flames booked their place in the playoffs after they defeated Goderich Blazers 84-40. Flames dominated throughout the game despite strong resistance from Blazers in the first quarter.
The win for Flames means they continue their 100% start to the season. But despite it, coach of the team, John Kallon, said they couldn’t have been better.
“We are still going to continue with the same tempo. Today half of what happened in the games wasn’t planned. We struggled to implement some of the things we wanted to do,” Kallon told Politico.
“We are trying to improve game after game,” he added.
Flames player, Isaac Turay, told Politico after the game that they were used to being in their current position. He said the focus for them now is to go all the way to the finals and win it.
“This means a lot to us, but we have been in this position for almost all the season. But it’s not about being in the playoff, it’s about winning it. This time we are actually dialed in to reach the final and win it.”
Blazers have lost two games in a row, out of the three they have played. This means they must win their next game to stand a chance of getting to the playoffs.
Blazer’s coach, Ibrahim Keita, said he was optimistic that they would still make the cut.
“On our own part, we made some mistakes. Our next game is on Wednesday against Makeni Silver Fox. We must put in a better performance because we can only qualify if we win that match. And with our dedication and what I saw tonight, I am sure we will make it to the playoffs,” Keita said.
In Sunday’s early game, Silver Fox narrowly lost to Kennedy Nets by 40-41. Fox have now lost two of their three games. The defeat for Fox means Wednesday’s game against Blazers will be a showdown for the next playoff spot in the group.
On Friday, Kennedy also won narrowly against Upwards 40-33.
Saturday’s game also saw DC Exclavate blow away Ashonix 83-24 and Murray Deen Heats beat Freetown Lakers 63-28.
Exclavate have also booked their spot for the playoffs after winning all three of their games.
