Bo FA Congratulates Isha Johansen

  • Isha Johansen, SLFA President

The Bo District Football Association has congratulated the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Isha Johansen after she was elected to the FIFA Executive Council.  In its congratulatory message the Bo FA said the achievement was not just for her but all women in Sierra Leone and the African continent, and also football fans.

“We continue to pray that you represent Sierra Leone at the highest level in the football forum”, the message reads.  Before her latest position Johansen was an Executive Confederation of African (CaF) .She attracted 28 votes defeating long serving incumbent Lydia Nsekera of Burundi who got just 4 votes. Nsekera had been in that position since 2013.

Johansen will sit in the 37 member Executive Council of football’s world governing body FIFA, joining other officials from Nigeria, Mali, Egypt, Benin and Morocco all representing the African continent. She becomes the first woman from West Africa to serve as a member of the FIFA council. Johansen is presently overseeing a football administration in Sierra Leone that has been dogged by controversies and divisions over the past seven years. An elective Congress that was to have taken place last month has been put on hold with the Sierra Leone parliament having opted to assist in mediating amongst opposing groups.
