Ministers and parliamentarians from Bombali District and Paramount Chiefs have ended one-day Ebola awareness-raising drive in Makeni.
PC Bai Shebora Kasangha II said citizens had the right to be healthy and to also support the government and its partners to achieve a better health status particularly in ensuring an Ebola-free society. He said the fight against the virus should be a national fight involving all Sierra Leoneans at different quarters.
“We as Paramount Chiefs of Bombali District appreciate the move the ministers made to talk to the people and to collaborate with us in the fight against Ebola at chiefdom and district levels" he said.
He noted that with the intervention of the ministries of local government and health Ebola would be a thing of the past in Sierra Leone.
PC Kandeh Finoh III of Magbainmba Ndohahun said it was pleasing to see MPs and ministers from Bombali taking the lead to fight Ebola and stop its transmission.
“I am very much happy that the ministers have explained to us what we should do as paramount chiefs in our chiefdoms and to let the people know that Ebola is real and it kills" he said.
He said that as far as Ebola was concerned prevention was better than cure and the move of the ministers and parliamentarians to stop the spread of the disease was a step in the right direction which he said would benefit every Sierra Leonean.
He assured that as chiefs they would do all they could to ensure their people realised the need to eradicate Ebola in their communities.
Minister of Health, Miatta Kargbo said they organised the meeting not only to raise awareness but also to ensure people of Bombali and the entire country understood the need to stop the spread of the disease by reporting all Ebola cases to the hospital for patient to have immediate cure.
“Eradicating Ebola is a national concern of which my ministry will do all it can to ensure that Sierra Leone is Ebola-free" she said.
