The body of a twelve year- old boy Morali Fofana has been found at Pa Morlai Wharf in Masorie Village, on the outskirts of Waterloo.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday 9th July 2023 after the boy together with his three friends went swimming that day.

In an interview with Politico, the Media Officer and Spokesperson at the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alieu Jalloh, said they received a report of drowning involving a boy who was on holiday with her Aunt, Hawa Fofana, some four days ago.

He said upon arrival at the scene, the Police were told that the boy drowned and that his friends had rushed home to inform their parents about the unfortunate incident.

He stated that they teamed up with the community people using a dug-out canoe to retrieve the body from the beach but noticed no foul play. He said the family of the late boy had requested for the corpse to be laid to rest, saying they don’t have money to pay for an autopsy and do not believe someone was responsible for his death.

ASP Jalloh urged the community people of Waterloo to always give them intelligence on any suspected crime in their various communities and also advised them to respect the law and help in safeguarding the lives and properties of other people. He said police contacts are all over Waterloo to help combat crime in the community, noting that the people have been very cooperative so far.

He noted that with the aid of the new Local Unit Commander (LUC) in Waterloo, they have improved in their responses having secured two rickshaws (kekehs), one for the Operational Support Division (OSD) and the other for the Community Relations Department (CRD), together with a bike for the media officer. There is also a standby vehicle and other vehicles to respond to any distress calls. He said the Waterloo police division can also now boast of more patrol vehicles than any other police station in the country, that are providing support in combating crime in the township.

“We have transformed Waterloo into a no-go-zone for criminals and we are working towards regaining the lost glory of the town,” he said.

The  Police spokesperson pointed out that they had on Saturday 8th July 2023 arrested four key drug dealers in Waterloo and demolished over twenty makeshift drug cartel structures. He said the suspects are currently in police custody. He told Politico that drug dealing is an organized criminal enterprise that they are trying to minimize if not eradicate its distribution chain.
