Musa Conteh, coach of Portuguese Tong community football team has accused the organisers of the Central One Football Association (COFA) non-division league of drawing the league fixtures with the motive of making money.
Forty teams have been drawn for this year’s league grouped into five with only two teams qualifying from each group.
Conteh says "It is unfair to some teams in the competition who want to expose new talents as COFA is running this league for money-making purposes and not to expose young talents. In a proper league, you cannot allow 40 teams to compete because you will not get the best of the competition".
Other coaches who spoke to this press expressed similar disappointment with the groupings. They suggested that some teams may not participate in the league.
They called on COFA to "revisit the fixture before the commencement of the competition on the 3rd August".
Responding to the allegations, COFA Chairman Samah Sesay said "we want all teams to have equal participation in the tournament as we want to run the competition quickly before the commencement of the Inter Area League".
He said they decided to add Junior teams at community level competition so that they will have a better turn out in the competition. "The fixture is out and we are not going to change anything".
